Yea, in Fall of 2011, Mindy Kaling will release her 1st book, titled The Contents of My Purse, which will be published by Random House’s Crown imprint.

The book, The Contents of My Purse will be a collection of comic essays detailing moments from a woman’s life, including everything from relationships to fashion. Crown describes Kaling’s collection as a mix between her own blog "Things I Bought That I Love" and Nora Ephron’s popular Broadway play Love, Loss, and What I Wore. Per Kaling signing her blog posts "Mindy Ephron" and listing the writer-director's You've Got Mail as one of her favorite films, it is evident that Mindy Kaling is a big fan of Nora Ephron.

Despicable Me tells about.. Gru (Carell) lives in a black house with an uncut lawn in a suburbian neighborhood. Underneath his house is his secret lair, a huge network of underground domelike rooms. Here lives his army of genetically altered corn pop henchmen, with human names like Dave. His main goal is to destroy number one supervillain Vector (Segel) so he can claim the title of number one. Above land, he lives a normal life. Sometimes he goes to the coffee shop, and uses his freeze-ray to shorten the line a bit. One day, three orphaned children, Margo (Cosgrove), Edith (Gaier) and Agnes (Fisher) come to Gru's doorstep looking for a father. He fails in all attempts to calm and discipline them, yet allows them to stay.

Gru takes the girls to a carnival, where he rides a roller-coaster and plays many carnival-like games with them, including a game similar to the Milk-bottle game.
Gru plans to steal the moon by shrinking it and using a robotic hand to grab it and pull it into his spacecraft. His minions are excited by the idea, just as they are excited at having successfully stolen the statue of liberty (a scaled-down copy from Las Vegas.) The children complicate the matter, although by the end of the film they find their ways into his heart.

Hosted by writer-performer-producer Seth MacFarlane (Family Guy), the West Coast version of the 2010 Writers Guild Awards took place this Saturday, February 20, at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles.

The show featured presentations by many writers, actors, and directors that have worked together to make movies and TV shows so memorable including MacFarlane & Mila Kunis (Family Guy), Judd Apatow & Jason Segel (Knocked Up), Ali LeRoi (Everybody Hates Chris) & WGA nominee Chris Rock (Good Hair) and House creator David Shore & star Hugh Laurie.

Director Mindy Kaling and writer Marc Webb are certainly a talented team and this week they delivered a hysterical Valentine’s-themed episode. After a terrible episode last week and a funny-enough clip episode before that, it seems like “The Office” has finally regained it’s footing as a show deserving a spot between the lovable sophomore “Parks and Recreation” and the powerhouse of comedy known as “30 Rock.” While the three main storylines stuffed into this half-hour comedy were well thought out and delivered laugh after laugh, Kathy Bates still has yet to find her rhythm amongst the cast. Hopefully her character quickly progresses and creates some laughs of her own. Otherwise, when the time comes, I will not be sad to see her go.

“The Office” is a mockumentary following the mundane, yet hilarious, lives of employees of the paper company, Dunder-Mifflin, in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
Title of this Week’s Episode: “Manager and Salesman” Season 6.

The office is eager to welcome Sabre CEO Jo Bennett to Scranton, and are dazzled by her Southern ways. But when Jo finds out there are two branch managers, she says either Michael or Jim must go back to being a salesman. Meanwhile, Andy’s Valentine’s Day plan backfires.

She of TV’s “The Office” appeared on “The Late Show with Craig Ferguson” on Friday night and trashed the neighborhood of the venerable Luv-It Frozen Custard.

Mindy Kaling told Craig Ferguson she was a little mad at his recommendation that Mindy Kaling visit the tiny blue shop in the shadow of the Stratosphere.

“We went to this frozen custard place in I believe the most dangerous and sketchy neighborhood I’ve ever been to in my entire life,” Mindy Kaling said.

Mindy Kaling and her friends were out on the town, wearing “sparkly dresses and heels” and celebrating her 30th birthday. They saw drug addicts, a pants-less man and two apparent “murderers” who Mindy Kaling learned were police officers on a “undercover drug sting” and big fans of her sitcom, she said.

“Was the custard good?” Ferguson kept saying.

“Yes. The custard was good.”

“Was it worth risking your life for?” he said.

“I guess in a way.”

But that wasn’t the end of it for some locals, who have been rallying in support of their favorite custard shop...

Mindy Kaling 'The Office' is ready for its Niagara Falls nuptials

Greg Daniels didn't want information about Jim and Pam's wedding on "The Office" to flow like Niagara Falls.

In a recent interview, Daniels, the executive producer of the NBC comedy, lamented that "the promos had given away a lot of stuff" about tonight's hourlong episode, titled "Niagara." It airs at 9 p.m. on WGRZ-TV Channel 2.

Stars Jenna Fischer (Pam Beesly), John Krasinski (Jim Halpert) and Steve Carell (Michael Scott) made the NBC talk shows rounds last week to discuss the episode. NBC, which isn't sending the episode to critics for review, didn't screen the promos for Daniels.

"I like that we're getting the promos, and it's a really good episode," said Daniels. "I know they are very excited about it and they want to show it off, but..."

The "but" seemed to say he wished all the wedding details had been kept secret and perhaps Jim's romantic speech hadn't been in the promos.

Greg Daniels cleared up a talk show comment by Krasinski that suggested the Falls was chosen as a destination wedding site because the lovebirds didn't think co-workers would want to go there.

"It was not that no one would go, but that [Niagara Falls] was eight hours away [from Scranton, Pa., where the comedy takes place a the fictional Dunder Mifflin Paper Company]," explained Daniels.

"The reason they picked a destination wedding is because they were kind of hoping it was just their family and not your co-workers. It was a little bit based on the experiences of some of the writers who decided not to get married in their hometowns to make it a little more difficult and reduce their guest lists."

Greg Daniels, however, said he believes the Niagara Falls setting gives the episode "grandeur" and is "going to be a big positive for Niagara Falls."

Mindy Kaling agrees. Kaling, who plays Kelly Kapoor on the show, is a co-executive producer of the series and co-wrote tonight's episode.

"It is the setting, I believe, of one of the most romantic weddings in television history," said Kaling, who came to Western New York in late August with some members of the cast and crew to film mostly exterior scenes in the Falls.

She said the fictional Jim and Pam originally thought that the setting might be a "little campy," and they chose the Falls because they are salespeople on a budget during a recession.

"It completely defies their expectations," said Mindy Kaling of the Falls. "The average American can enjoy really spectacular views and experiences on their wedding even if they are not millionaires."

The shot of the Falls isn't lengthy because, Kaling said, the footage "was so dramatic."

"We wanted to use it pretty sparingly so it could be special," said Kaling. She believes the footage of Pam and Jim on the Maid of the Mist also is very special.

"Getting footage on the actual Maid of the Mist was incomparable," said Kaling. "With all the money Hollywood has we could never have replicated that... That was just insanely beautiful. Going on the Maid of the Mist and seeing Niagara Falls up close blew all my expectations out of the water, no pun."

Without a doubt, the promos and the magazine covers are likely to bring many viewers to "The Office" who have never seen an episode.

The series premiered in March 2005, won the Emmy as Best Comedy in 2006 and also earned a Peabody Award. But it never has gotten a big audience locally or nationally, though it is a demographic hit. The season premiere had a 6.9 rating here (representing 6.9 percent of area households), 2.6 points of which came from DVR viewing.

Daniels understands that some new local viewers drawn by the filming at Niagara Falls may need a little background about the characters and the mockumentary format.

"If you've never seen it before, it would be nice to tell who all the characters are," said Daniels. "It is kind of like if you've never seen "The Mary Tyler Moore Show' or "Cheers' or something. The very first time, you're going to try and figure out who everybody is. But hopefully there is enough plain old humor here."

"The format is unusual," added Daniels. "The mockumentary format is sometimes off-putting if you are not used to it. So you have to realize they are aware that there are cameras filming them."

A parody, the series seeks laughs by documenting the odd way people behave in a typical office setting led by the paper company's buffoonish regional manager, Michael Scott (Carell). The documentary company also follows the personal lives of the workers.

Daniels noted that "the most long-standing and interesting relationship is between" Jim (who started as a salesman and now is co-manager with Michael) and Pam (who started as a receptionist and now is on the sales staff).

"You just have to know that a man and a woman are getting married and all of their co-workers are coming," said Daniels. "And the co-workers are making it difficult for them to have the romantic wedding that they are trying to have."

It is actually the second wedding that Pam planned. She originally was engaged to warehouse worker Roy Anderson (David Denman) before the relationship collapsed, their wedding was canceled and Pam fell in love with Jim. Pam's wedding plans weren't wasted. They were used in the first "Office" wedding of a secondary character, Phyllis.

It is easy to see why just about everybody loves Pam and Jim.

"Even though Jenna Fischer and John Krasinski are gorgeous, attractive people, their (character's) jobs and the fact that they are not wearing designer clothes or making a million dollars (makes them relatable)," said Kaling. "They are just two people you might even know falling in love in kind of a realistic way."

Longtime fans know the wedding fits perfectly in the tradition of "Office" episodes set in restaurants or in meetings where Michael often makes a fool of himself with some inappropriate behavior. It would be a shock if Michael didn't do it again (my guess is it will be in an awkward and embarrassing toast).

"That's a pretty good assumption," said Daniels of Michael making a fool of himself. He added that some co-workers are looking to change their images at the wedding.

"There are different people who are excited to go to this wedding and they have different goals. Like, there is this very heavyset accountant who totally wants to prove he can look really good."

From the promos, it is clear that Daniels is referring to Kevin (Brian Baumgartner).

Kaling also suggested that the episode could help the image of Niagara Falls and inspire more people to come there to get married or just to visit.

"I would love to check in a year to see what the statistics are," said Kaling.

The story of "The Office" Blood Drive (2009) is... Michael holds a lonely hearts party on Valentine's Day at the office, hoping that he will run into a woman he met earlier that day at a blood drive. Meanwhile, Jim and Pam have an awkward lunch with Phillis and Bob Vance.

Perhaps not as funny, but a great step in the right direction.
I will hand it that this episode didn't have a whole lot of laughs, but I consider this the rehab episode The Office has needed after a string of less-than-good to awful episodes before it.

The biggest improvement is making the show feel real again. The thing I HATED most about the last few episodes was the complete abandonment from reality that they took with the humor and tone. Here, however, the characters are actually behaving more like humans again and doing a lot better acting than they had been lately. Kudos to the writers too for giving them some good dialogue to work with again.

I also love that they're trying to really develop the characters as well, particularly with Kevin since he's one of the supporting players I like the most. There feels like there is a progression of a plot again and the focus is more controlled to impromptu and natural laughs rather than bizzaro comedy. Hopefully we can see more developments with some of the other characters since they really butchered some of the great story lines during episodes like The Duel.

I think I just love how touched I was with this episode. Yes I know, this isn't supposed to be a drama or anything. However, I think the best comedies are the ones that can make you laugh and cry and that's what I felt happened with this episode. Heck, I think the drama gave the comedy in this a little more impact since it felt like a natural relief of tension.

If things continue to improve with the next few episodes, we may just have a return to form with The Office. I've tried to say that previous episodes were a step in the right direction, but this truly is one because it captures what The Office is supposed to be: a look at real life with a slight comedic spin. It makes me glad I didn't give up hope on the show.

Under terms of the two-year, seven-figure deal, Mindy Kaling 'll continue to write for and appear on "The Office" next season while simultaneously developing a comedy in which she would also star.

"This is my first step in a Transformers-style way to take over the whole world," Kaling quipped. "I've only ever worked for NBC, and I've felt an enormous amount of support from the executives there."

The first... Mindy Kaling.. She gets to be mean to Pam. The clip above, in which Kelly "helpfully" compliments office sweetheart Pam on her glasses, is merely the beginning. Kelly and Pam also once had a smackdown regarding the Ping-Pong abilities of their boyfriends in the episode "The Deposition," as seen below.

The Second... Mindy Kaling She never gives up on love. Kelly Kapoor has dated the horrible Ryan Howard and kind of dated warehouse guy Darryl Philbin. But confronted with new boss Charles Miner (Idris Elba), she's all over him, too.

The Third... Mindy Kaling.. She's a merciless schemer. Kelly Kapoor only has one line in this very short clip, as Dwight invades her "nook" and tells her that he suspects her of scheming to make him look bad, but she makes the most of it.

She gives him a ride home on the condition that he sit in the back seat.

Jim tries to bicycle home but is too drunk. An amused Karen gives Jim a ride.

During the end credits, Michael and Dwight perform a Diwali celebration song Michael has written to the tune of "The Chanukah Song", the lyrics of the song being:

Take Your Daughter To Work Day.. Michael shows the office his childhood appearance on a children's show, where he revealed his dream was to "get married and have 100 kids, so I can have 100 friends, and no one can say 'no' to being my friend." He retreats into his office when he realizes that he never came close to that dream. Toby talks to Michael, who decides to start online dating. After being tormented by Jake all day, Dwight is finally stern with him, which quietly pleases Angela. Pam wins over Jake with the paper shredder. Jim leaves the office early to go on a date, to Pam's chagrin. Michael and Dwight end the party by performing Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young's "Teach Your Children".

Jim and Michael take Dwight to the hospital where Michael insists that his burned foot is a more serious injury than Dwight's blunt force trauma. Before they go, Pam bids "goodbye" to the concussed Dwight, aware that she will probably never see the good-natured version of Dwight Schrute ever again.

Mindy KalingIt's probably safe to say that Thursday's episode of "The Office" will feature a television first: No other American comedy series has ever had the Hindu festival of Diwali.

The episode is the brainchild of Mindy Kaling, an Indian-American writer and producer on the series who also plays bubbly Dunder Mifflin employee Kelly. She admits, though, that when it came time to put the celebration down on paper, she had to turn to Google.

"I was a little embarrassed with how little I knew about it," says Mindy Kaling, who grew up in Boston. "I'm Hindu, but I'm not really a practicing Hindu, so I had to do a lot of research.

"But it was good too, because I could tell [executive producer Greg Daniels] and people I work with were a little antsy about assigning the Hindu writer the Indian episode. I didn't want to feel like they pigeonholed me, but I felt like I'd done enough episodes" -- she's written four others -- "that it was okay. I was actually a little excited -- I got to learn a little bit more about my culture."

She also got to involve her family. Her parents -- mom Swati a doctor and dad Avu is an architect -- appear in the episode as Kelly's folks, who pepper her boyfriend Ryan (B.J. Novak) with questions about the couple's future. Kaling is proud of the work they did on the episode, but she says the initial experience having them on set was "mortifying."

"Of course I sort of lapsed back into that pre-teen attitude of every single thing my parents do embarrasses me," she says, laughing. "But they were great about it. They were such pros -- they had all these scenes with Steve Carell and they were completely unafraid. They got along effortlessly."

In addition to the Diwali celebration, Thursday's "Office" presses forward with a number of ongoing stories in the show. Michael (Carell) makes a decision about his relationship with sometime girlfriend Carol (Nancy Walls, Carell's real-life wife), Pam (Jenna Fischer) continues her tentative exploration of singlehood and, in the Stamford branch of Dunder Mifflin, Jim (John Krasinski) takes a stumbling step forward in his relationship with new co-worker Karen (Rashida Jones).

"This episode kind of has every single thing I love the most, in anything at all," she says. "It has romance, people getting dressed up in costumes, lots of food, smooching and making out ... and little girls making fun of B.J. Novak."

Kaling devotes a significant chunk of the "Diwali" episode to the Stamford office, which she calls the "Darren Star-type office." She says she and the other writers are enjoying playing the contrasts between the two branches this season.

"For me it's sort of like 'Upstairs, Downstairs,'" Kaling says. "Stamford is like the high-class office. It's only 30 minutes from New York, with good-looking Ed Helms and good-looking Rashida Jones and good-looking Chip [Esten, who plays Jim's new boss]."

That duality may not last too much longer -- the show has an episode called "The Merger" coming up in a couple of weeks, and the episode description NBC provides makes no secret of the fact that the two branches are combining in some way. That could, however, open up a whole new set of possible stories, and for Kelly, fresh avenues of office gossip.

"I love Kelly because she's one of the few people in the office who really loves it," Kaling says. "I think especially in the first season, it was a trial coming to work for everyone. The only reason Jim and Pam came was for each other. Kelly, I think, really loves the office and thinks of it as like this fun, sexy place where she can flirt with her boyfriend and have drama."

Mindy Kaling isn't sure, though, whether Kelly and Ryan's already tenuous coupling will last much longer. "I love the way it is now, where she's so unaware" that Ryan is only half-heartedly committed (if that) to their relationship. "You know what it'll be? It'll be her becoming obsessed with someone new. I think that will be it. Right now she's in sort of a blissful other place."
